At Hip Hop Pop, we love seeing our students bring their creative visions to life. Drew Hampson, a dedicated student of nearly a decade, has done just that with his powerful dance concept video, POW.
The Journey Behind “POW”
Drew, who joined Hip Hop Pop in 2014/15, has always been passionate about showcasing his unique style. Inspired by his role as one of the lead characters on our most recent production Shadows, Drew set his sights on creating a piece that would blend his favourite dance styles and highlight the talent of his fellow students.
The result? A high-energy routine set to Pow by Lethal Bizzle (a Hip Hop Pop mix), featuring Jaz, Jade, Summer, Amelia, Laura, and Abbie alongside Drew. This piece, filmed over two dedicated sessions at Harlow Playhouse, showcases a mix of Locking, House, Lite Feet, and Popping.

Behind the Scenes
Preparation for POW started long before the cameras rolled, with Drew carefully choreographing and conceptualising the details. The filming session was brought to life with lighting provided by Hip Hop Pop’s, who helped transform the space into a vibrant stage. Post-production editing at HHP added the finishing touches, enhancing the video’s energy and visual impact.
A Few Words from Drew
We asked Drew to share his thoughts on his journey and inspiration:
When did you start at Hip Hop Pop, and what’s been your favourite memory so far?“I started in 2014/15, so around 9/10 years ago. My favourite memory has to be playing one of the main characters in the big show Shadows.”
What inspired you to create this piece?“After the big show, I had thoughts about trying to create my own piece to show off my style to other students.”
Tell us more about the song choice and the piece itself.“I chose Pow as it’s a very high-energy song that allowed the dancers to really enjoy the piece, and the audience watching it would too. The piece is split into sections, showcasing various styles such as Locking, House, Lite Feet.”
What would you create next if given the opportunity?“I’d flip it around and do something completely different from this one.”
Anything you’d like to add?“I just want to thank all the dancers for putting in the hard work to create this piece, and also thank Jen and Sinc for allowing me the space to create.”
A Celebration of Student Creativity
At Hip Hop Pop, we believe in providing a platform for students to explore their creativity. Drew’s POW is a testament to the talent and passion our students bring to the stage, and we are proud of his vision and execution.
Congratulations, Drew, and a huge thank you to everyone involved in making this project a success. We can’t wait to see what you create next!
